Four Extraordinary Experiences

One Journey

There are trips that take you somewhere. And there are journeys that seem to contain an entire world.

We begin on the Atlantic coast in the French Basque Country before traveling to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, where we set out on foot across the Pyrenees and into Spain.

Over the next seven walking days, the Camino carries us through mountain villages, forests and the rolling countryside of Navarra; into Pamplona during one of Spain’s most legendary celebrations; over Alto del Perdón; and eventually through the vineyards of La Rioja to Logroño.

Along the way, we experience four remarkable parts of this corner of Europe:

The Basque Country. The Pyrenees and Camino de Santiago. San Fermín. La Rioja.

Eleven days. Approximately 180 kilometers on foot. Ten guests. Two experienced guides. And an experience of Spain and France that would be difficult to encounter any other way.

The Four Experiences

The Basque Country

Our journey begins along the Atlantic coast before moving inland to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, one of the great starting points of the Camino Francés.

The Pyrenees & Camino de Santiago

We cross the Pyrenees from France into Spain and follow one of the most celebrated stretches of the Camino Francés through Roncesvalles, Zubiri, Puente la Reina, Estella and Los Arcos.

San Fermín

We arrive in Pamplona as the city comes alive for San Fermín, spending two nights surrounded by its music, traditions, food, street celebrations and unmistakable energy.

La Rioja

Our final stages carry us through vineyards and rolling countryside into Logroño, where we celebrate the completion of our Camino in one of Spain's great wine regions.

7 Days on the Camino

July 2 — Arrive in Biarritz
Our journey begins on France's Atlantic coast in the heart of the French Basque Country. Settle in, meet your fellow travelers and join us for our welcome dinner.

July 3 — Biarritz → Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port
We travel together into the foothills of the Pyrenees and arrive in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, the historic French starting point for our Camino. The afternoon is ours to explore, prepare and begin settling into the rhythm ahead.

July 4 — Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port → Roncesvalles · 24.5 km
Our first walking day is one of the Camino's great stages: across the Pyrenees from France into Spain and down to the historic pilgrimage village of Roncesvalles.

July 5 — Roncesvalles → Zubiri · 21.5 km
We descend through the forests and mountain villages of Navarra toward Zubiri.

July 6 — Zubiri → Pamplona · 21.3 km
The Camino carries us toward Pamplona on the opening day of San Fermín. After days in the mountains and countryside, we walk into an entirely different world.

July 7 — Pamplona · San Fermín
No walking today. We spend a full day experiencing the music, traditions, food, street celebrations and extraordinary energy of San Fermín.

July 8 — Pamplona → Puente la Reina · 23 km
We leave the celebration behind and return to the Camino, climbing to Alto del Perdón before descending toward one of the Camino's most historic towns, Puente la Reina.

July 9 — Puente la Reina → Estella · 21.5 km
A classic Camino day through the rolling landscapes, villages and vineyards of Navarra.

July 10 — Estella → Los Arcos · 22 km
We continue west through open countryside and wine country toward Los Arcos.

July 11 — Los Arcos → Logroño · 28.1 km
Our longest and final walking day carries us out of Navarra and into La Rioja. We arrive in Logroño and celebrate what we've accomplished with a special winery dinner in one of Spain's great wine regions.

July 12 — Logroño · Departure
Breakfast together before individual departures or onward travel.

Experience San Fermín

For one day, we step away from the trail and into one of Spain's most extraordinary celebrations.

Every July, Pamplona transforms. The streets fill with people dressed in white and red, music pours from plazas and bars, processions move through the old city, and generations of tradition unfold alongside an enormous street celebration.

We arrive in Pamplona on July 6, as San Fermín begins, and spend the following day immersed in the festival before returning to the Camino.

Our experience is centered on the culture of San Fermín — its music, food, traditions, history, street life and extraordinary sense of celebration.

The Camino invites us to slow down. San Fermín invites us to celebrate. This journey gives us both.

Our Logistics Partner

Camino Más Allá and Fellow Travelers partner with Follow the Camino, one of the most experienced Camino de Santiago operators in the world. Founded in 2006, they were the first tour operator dedicated to the Camino and have spent twenty years helping pilgrims walk the routes to Santiago de Compostela.

Follow the Camino manages the on-the-ground logistics of our journey — accommodations, daily luggage transfers, route information, our private transfer from Biarritz to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, and 24/7 logistical support.

That allows us to focus on what makes this journey different: preparing you for the Camino, walking alongside you, creating space for your own experience, and building a community in which ten gay men can share an extraordinary adventure through the Basque Country, Navarra and La Rioja.

A Camino Among Fellow Travelers

There is something different about walking the Camino with people who understand something about your life before you ever have to explain it.

This journey brings together a small group of gay men for eleven days of walking, conversation, challenge, laughter, celebration and discovery. Some will arrive knowing exactly why they want to walk the Camino. Others may simply be ready for an adventure and curious about where the road might lead.

There is no expectation that everyone share the same story, be at the same stage of life, or come looking for the same thing.

What we share is the journey.

With only ten guests, the group is small enough for real connection while leaving everyone the freedom to experience the Camino in their own way. Walk together when you want company. Walk alone when you need space. Gather again over meals, in Pamplona, along the trail and at the end of the day.

Fellow Travelers and Camino Más Allá have created this journey around a simple idea: adventure can be personal without having to be solitary.

Led by Orlando Gonzales + Michael Rucker

Orlando and Michael will walk the Camino alongside the group—not simply manage it from the front.

Fellow Travelers brings its experience creating travel and community for gay men. Camino Más Allá brings preparation, Camino experience, personal guidance and post-Camino integration.

Together, our role is not to determine what your Camino should be. It is to help you receive your own Camino.

Is This Camino for You?

You don't need to be an experienced pilgrim to walk this Camino. You do need to be ready for an adventure.

This journey may be for you if you're drawn to the Camino de Santiago, want to experience this remarkable part of Spain and France with a small group of gay men, and like the idea of combining walking, culture, celebration and community in a way few trips can offer.

You don't need to arrive with a big question to answer or a life change to figure out. You may simply want to walk the Camino, challenge yourself, meet new people and see what happens along the way.

This is a physically demanding Camino. We will walk approximately 180 kilometers over seven walking days, generally 21–28 kilometers a day, including the crossing of the Pyrenees from France into Spain.

You don't need to be an elite athlete, but you should be willing to prepare. We'll help you develop a training plan before departure so you arrive comfortable walking longer distances on consecutive days.

Daily luggage transfers mean you'll walk with only a daypack, and private accommodations give you a comfortable place to recover each evening.

Come prepared to walk. Come ready for an adventure. Leave room for everything else.
